He called my bluff….

J that is. Yesterday I threatened to throw away one of his trains because he has gotten into the habit of throwing his toys. “Okay.” he says. So I threw Annie in the trash (all you parents with Thomas the Train fans living in your house know which one I’m talking about). I made J come look at it to show him I was serious.
“Say bye-bye to Annie.”

“Bye Annie” he says.

Determined to make him understand that he will have to live with the consequences of his actions, I proceeded to tell him that I’m going to throw away all his trains if he keeps throwing his toys.

“They’re upstairs, Mommy.” he says.

Meanwhile K is rolling on the floor trying to suppress his laughter.

To top it all off, on the way upstairs to go to bed, he finds Clarabell in the playroom.

“Here Mommy, I found another one.” J says.

Yeah, okay so I’m not going to actually throw away his trains (you think I’m crazy? We payed good money for those trains!)…but he won’t be seeing them for a looong time.

Whew..what a weekend!

This past weekend started off well..took the kids to the zoo on Saturday and although it was terribly hot, I think we all had a good time. Afterwards we went to a friend’s house for their daughter’s birthday celebration. J had a blast and must have been on a sugar high because he only had a two minute nap in the car that day. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. Sunday both kids came down with a stomach bug. K and I were running back and forth cleaning up the messes. Before we could get one mess totally cleaned up, the other kid would have left their mark on our carpet. How exhausting…and on top of that, we had mulch delivered Saturday and needed to get it down before we left this week on our trip. It took us two nights and after a million mosquito bites, we finished last night. It’s amazing how mosquitos can find that one little spot on you that you forgot to cover with bug spray. They were biting us through our clothes too!

J is totally taking advantage of his sickness. Yesterday he was feeling better, but when Grandma came over he proceeded to lay on the floor and complain how tired he was and that he needed his drink..he was milking it for all it was worth. Amazing what an “almost 3 year old” is capable of, isn’t it?

Happy Birthday M!

Today is my baby’s actual first birthday (although we are doing all the celebrations on different days). J is a little confused since we celebrated M’s birthday Saturday . I asked J to wish his lil brother a happy birthday this morning and he refused. He said it was his birthday today. Boy, is he going to be a little more confused when we celebrate M’s bday again with my side of the family next week. Well, hopefully, it makes up for the fact that we didn’t do the huge party we did for J’s 1st.

This morning M got his 1 yr. shots - I know what a terrible way to start off your first birthday. M loved sitting forward in the car today..I put him in J’s carseat since we haven’t turned around M’s seat yet. And M has somehow mastered playing tiddlywinks with his Cheerios. Needless to say, breakfast has become even messier now with cereal flying everywhere.

Yesterday we celebrated M’s first birthday with my in-laws. The first birthday is supposed to be a big celebration in our culture, but M’s celebration ended up being very low-key. We like to call it the Second Child Syndrome - where unfortunately, the second child doesn’t get all the hoopla that the First Child did. We really felt terrible about it, but we just couldn’t afford it for M. We are having another celebration with my side of the family in a couple of weeks. (That weekend will be a whirlwind of events - M’s party combined with my niece’s 3rd b-day celebration and my SIL’s baby shower. )
Being the youngest in my family, I know how M may end up feeling when he gets older. Looking through my family photo albums, there are tons of pic’s of my brother (the oldest) and practically none of me. I don’t hold it against my parents though - geez, they had four kids -I guess they didn’t have time to think about taking pic’s.

Hmmm, blogging has become an every other day thing…
I just don’t seem to have enough time in the day to get everything done. Even though J is in daycare three days a week, M is still home with me and you moms know how it is with a one year old - it takes 10x longer to get anything done. Now that I’m a SAHM, you think the house might be a little neater - uhhh, not so much here. On top of all the housework, my sis and I are trying to get our business going. We have many ideas, but not the time to work on them.

I leave you with the thought of the day: What’s really the difference between a WAHM and a SAHM? We SAHM work our arses off too - we just don’t get paid for it….

I’ve meant to blog daily, but I don’t know where the last two days went. The weather here has been terribly blah, and unfortunately, my moods usually follow the weather. And worst of all, the weather has been like this for almost a week now!

Onto another subject…
Sometimes I wonder if J is 2 1/2 or a teenager. He’s mastered the response, “O-KAY MOMMEEEE!”, the evil eye, and comments “Geez!” with the roll of the eyes. Gosh, if it’s like this now, I can’t imagine what he’s going to have mastered by 13 years. I’ve also noticed that not only has he likely inherited his father’s allergies, but also his difficulty hearing. I’m hoping he outgrows both…

I’ve finally taken the plunge and started a blog. Most people I know blog as a way to keep in touch with far away friends. I’m hoping it will be more therapeutic than anything else. If you happen to be with creatures under the age of 5 all day, you’ll know what I mean. Although my oldest son J tries, he doesn’t always fit the bill for a stimulating conversationalist. And my youngest M, has only mastered “uh-oh”, which really doesn’t go far in a conversation.

What’s with the blogname? You can either take the word “mumbles” as a verb or noun.
Verb definition: “To utter indistinctly by lowering the voice or partially closing the mouth.”
This is what my DH says I do and therefore his excuse for not hearing/listening to me.

As a noun, it can describe the thoughts running through my head in a course of a day…at first, they may seem indistinct/incoherent, but hopefully, when typed out in words on this blog, they’ll make some sense and not portray me as a raving lunatic.

I was inspired to start a blog by the site blogher.org and the Kimchi Mamas blog. It’s interesting to come across other women much like me who are at a similar stage of life. So I can safely say, I’m not as crazy as I thought I was…at least I don’t think so…
