Random thoughts on shopping…

Why do departments stores put the children’s clothing on the second floor? It is so much harder to get to especially if you have a stroller. Because you know they never have clear signage telling you where the elevators are. But there is a Marshall Fields near me that finally figured it out and switched their kid’s section to the bottom floor…so much easier!

Another pet peeve is when you go into a kid’s clothing store and can’t get your stroller around the racks/down the aisles. You’d think they would consider making it easier for mom’s to get around the store to look at their merchandise.

I think I’m grumpy…as you probably can tell, I just got back from a shopping trip with my little one.

Okay, I need to do a better job posting on my blog…

My little J started preschool this week. I think he is adjusting well. The teachers are saying that he is doing a good job and having fun. It was helpful that he had two pals from daycare starting at the same preschool at the same time. Today I saw a mom drop off her child (looked a little younger than J) who was crying hysterically - I’m assuming it was his first day. I left as the teacher was trying to comfort him and calm him down. In the hall I saw his mom looking through the one-way window watching and crying as well. Broke my heart. Probably the first time for both of them.

J on the other hand…
“J, mommy is leaving now…”
“Okay, bye.” And without wasting a second, runs off to play and barely acknowledges my departure. But that’s okay…as long as I know he’s happy there.

Wow, almost a week since I’ve posted last…where has the time gone?

Today I took M to an Aquatic playgroup. I thought he would love it since he loves splashing around in the bathtub. But when we got in the water, he was terrified - even though we were in the very shallow end of the pool. He clung onto me for dear life. He spent more than half the time in my lap in the water. After a while he got used to it and at least sat there by himself, although he didn’t do much splashing or playing. I’ve noticed he’s an observer/people watcher. There were tons of older kids splashing around and playing and he seemed more interested in them than making his own waves. I tried to look at things through his eyes - being in the pool is totally different from the bathtub. The pool is huge compared to the bathtub he’s used to. I signed him up for Baby Aquatics class - we’ll see how that goes….

Where oh where did my little M go?

M has been out of sorts ever since he got the stomach bug about 2 weeks ago. Last night he woke up screaming twice. K and I are convinced it’s a combination of his recovery from the bug (stomach cramps), teething, and being spoiled . I called the ped’s office to be sure, but ofcourse there is no way to pinpoint what is wrong. He is no longer his old laidback self as I usually describe him to others. I’m hoping the “laid back M” comes back soon. I’m exhausted…since K and I share a wall with M’s room, the crying kept us up half the night. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t just ignore him when he cries, but I’m a firm believer that letting the kid cry isn’t going to do any damage, as long as you’ve checked to make sure everything is okay physically.

Just waiting it out now…..

I need a vacation…
Everytime we go away, I come back home exhausted. It was great to see my family and celebrate M’s 1st birthday and my niece’s 3rd birthday with them, but it can be sooo exhausting traveling with kids. Unfortunately, M was still recovering from his stomach bug and then got a fever from his immunizations the previous week. And now I think he’s teething. Poor guy.
J had a blast with his cousins though. This was the first time the entire family was together in years. And I met my new niece for the first time. Adorable…but I think it’s just two kids for me. I’m done - although K thinks he will change my mind, I don’t think I have the strength or patience to have another one.
