What a day…and it isn’t even over yet…

I’m coming down with something - I’ve got the sore throat and building sinus pressure. I wake up in the mornings barely able to talk. M is sick too - although we aren’t quite sure if it’s the same thing or if he has pink eye. DH is working today and called to say he is starting to feel sick too. I think it all started with J - he was sick earlier this week, but he seems better now.

Well, since I was feeling sick this morning, I was being the ugliest “momster” to J. I have little patience today to deal with anything. If he knew what bi-polar disorder was, he probably thought I had it. Then J managed to clog the toilet when he did his business this morning. I thought I could leave it until DH got home…wasn’t in the mood to deal with it myself. I happened to go back in there a few hours later and stepped into a puddle. There was a steady stream coming down the side of the toilet. Without getting into the details, I was a madwoman trying to clean it up while M kept crawling towards all the yucky stuff on the ground. Blech!

I’m exhausted and feel like crap. It is boiling here - although it looks like a storm is coming.

Somebody save me!!!

Last night, DH and I went out to celebrate my birthday sans kids. It was a beautiful evening and I was so happy to get out of the house without the kids….to actually have a meal not worrying if M is going to throw his cup, food, or anything else he can get his hands on, across the room and negotiating with J to finish his meal. We actually had decent conversation, although at least half of it was centered around the kids. Can’t escape it for some reason.

For dinner, I had:
Seared tuna with some sort of crab coleslaw: Alright, but not thrilled about the seasonings.

DH was supposed to have what the restaurant called a “Cowboy steak” (ribeye with tons of marbling), but accidentally got a Kobe beef steak. Didn’t realize it until we got the bill. I guess it was believable… “Kobe” and “Cowboy”…close enough. Needless to say, the Kobe steak was excellent.

For dessert I had a chocolate martini (yum!) and shared a banana and nutella crepe with vanilla ice cream. (yum X 100).

All in all a great evening. We decided we needed to do this more often. The problem is, I don’t think my MIL will babysit every weekend :).

For all you SAHM’s….I highly recommend a mommy’s helper.

Mine came for the first time today and she was great with M. He didn’t even cry or try to find me or anything while I was cleaning. I wish I could’ve gotten more done, but she only stayed for 1.25 hours because M had to nap. But it was well worth it to at least get some of the bathrooms done.

Now DH thinks the neighbors might get mad at me because the hourly rate I offered her. When I asked how much she charges (b/c I had no idea how much mommy’s helpers usually get paid), she said 2.50 per hour. Given she is only about 13 y.o., I knew it wouldn’t be much, but I didn’t expect it to be that low. So instead I offered her $4…which she ofcourse gladly excepted. Hey, she took babysitting and first aid classes and all…I figured she was worth more than the $2.50 she was asking. But DH pointed out that as soon as the neighbors catch wind of it, they might not be happy with me….what do you think?

I’m on this mission to get organized!!!

So I decided to get a mommy’s helper. She’s a 13 yr old girl that lives in our neighborhood. My neighbor said she is pretty reliable and has taken babysitting classes (First Aid classes). She was asking for $2.50 per hour - but I decided $4…since she has taken classes and all, I figured she was worth $4..we’ll see. I just want her to play with M while I get some cleaning done around the house. Sometimes I don’t know how other mom’s who don’t get helpers do it all. If someone knows the secret, please let me know…

They grow up so fast….

Lately, I’ve been realizing how fast my kids are growing up. Particularly J. It’s not like they’re huge milestones or anything. For example last night was the first time he didn’t wear a diaper to bed. He’s been potty trained for a while now, but he doesn’t get out of bed by himself and sometimes he couldn’t wait for me to get him in the mornings. He did a fabulous job - he was dry when I got him. And last night before bed, he used “big boy” toothpaste (w/ fluoride) - the kind you have to spit out - for the first time. He loved it because he got to swish the water around in his mouth and spit it out.

DH and I are also noticing how much more perceptive he is becoming. Before, we would be able to talk about him without him noticing, but now he can catch on to our conversations more quickly. And last but not least, he is conversing so much more now…”mommy look at this”, “mommy look at that”, and singing songs he’s learned from school. He prays before meals for us..a little song he learned from school. He sings the shortened version, but does a great job with it.

M took three steps a couple of days ago by himself - without me prompting him either! But he has yet to do it again. Although he has been able to walk about 10 steps or so while I hold one of his hands.

Life with my boys is becoming fun…but tiring. I’m enjoying it all though!

Still Recovering…..

My SIL just got married this past weekend. It was fun but so exhausting. I know J had a blast with his cousin. But the kids were up past 10pm for three nights in a row! So now they are both still off schedule. I had to wake J up for school today. Yesterday I let him sleep in until 9:30am and took him in late to school.

Here is a pic of J and his cousin on a carriage ride. J’s aunt (my SIL) was nice enough to let the kids take a ride in the carriage after her and her husband arrived at the reception site. My niece was thrilled and even was pretending that she was getting married to J.

Oh, J did a pretty good job as ring bearer. He actually walked down the aisle, although not really keeping up with the flower girl and kicking the petals along the way as she was dropping them. He did as good a job as you can expect from a kid who is not quite 3 years old yet.

All in all, a fun weekend. None of the kids got sick or anything which is always an accomplishment in itself!

Happy Belated 4th!

Yesterday was a day of shopping for us. Got some great deals at Baby Gap. Shopping is somewhat patriotic, right ? - I mean we are contributing to our country’s economy… ;)
Kids have been sleeping late as we have been hanging out with friends whose kids are J’s age. Last night J had a blast with his two pals. It made me sad to see M somewhat left out of all the fun. No one wanted to share their toys or pay him any attention. And ofcourse sitting with the grown-ups table while we chatted is really no fun, is it? M needs to find some friends his age…or I mean, I have to find him some friends. Today was infant swim class for us. M really enjoyed the safety jumps off the edge of the pool. But he just hates, hates, hates the shower in the locker room. Just the sound of it makes him start crying. Overall though, I think he had fun today. He’s becoming used to being in the pool. I gotta start thinking about starting J on some swim lessons. That is one thing I want both my kids to do - swim lessons. I think everyone should know how to swim. We’ll see when we can squeeze those lessons in for J since this almost-3 year old has a busy schedule…LOL.
