Wish List Item #1 March 16, 2007

As some of my loyal visitors (those few that are out there) may note, I’ve really been horrible at keeping up with this blog. But I really do “think” about all the things I want to blog about, but when I finally have the time to sit down at my laptop, I’ve forgotten everything.

But one thing I’ve noticed lately, is my ever-growing *wish* list. You see, living on our family’s frugal budget prevents me from buying all those things that my materialistic side tries to convince my “down to earth” side that I need. Oddly enough, my husband has no problem with me buying stuff for myself - because I really never do buy myself anything. Anything I buy is usually for someone else - like the kids.

So I live vicariously through others, drool at the cool things I come across on the Internet, and mentally add it to my looooong wish list thinking someday I’ll remember it and buy it when our family income has increased dramatically - which I hope is not too long off, because let’s face it…I’m getting old.

So what kind of stuff is on my wish list - I’m sure you guys are all dying to know. So every now and then (when my memory doesn’t fail me) I’ll share something from that every growing list of things that are just out of my reach…at least for now.

(Phewww! Laptop almost crashed and this blog entry was almost lost into the black hole of oblivion…Mental note: add laptop to wish list…)

I’ve been wanting one of these for a while. Not much of a jewelry person, but I think I would wear this one for sure:

It’s a mommy ring - sterling silver with your children’s names engraved. Not sure why I’m so in love with it…maybe it’s the simplicity of the design - yet it’s meaningful. It can be found at Nell and Lizzy’s online shop.

A New Do and the Start of a New Relationship… January 15, 2007

I finally got around to getting my hair cut this weekend. I couldn’t find the time to get it done earlier, but most of all, I was dreading going to a new stylist. You see, the one I was going to for a while, she up and left to go to a new salon. No big deal, I could’ve just followed her to her new digs, but I think this was my sign to find a new one closer to my house. She knew my hair and I liked what she did with it everytime I went to see her, but she was a bit chatty in an all too perky way. Very nice, but really overly perky…sometimes I couldn’t tell if she was forcing it.

A few months ago, I found out there was an salon by my house.  I don’t know what it is about Aveda, but I really like their salons…maybe it is that little scalp and shoulder massage you get before they style your hair.
I tried it once for a manicure/pedicure for my SIL’s wedding. An alright job..but not the best I’ve seen. I decided to go back and try their hair services. The stylist was pretty good, but not very talkative which made her seem a little cold. When I went back Saturday to give this place another shot, I think I hit the jackpot! This stylist was not as expensive (I guess because she hasn’t been doing this for as long as some of the other stylists), but she did a fantastic job with my hair. And to top it all off, she was not too chatty but not too stand offish either. I’m only bummed that I’m moving in about 5 months or so, and I will have to go through this whole process again in a new town.

I don’t know if guys really understand the importance of finding a good stylist - not only one who is great with hair, but someone who has a great personality too.
